Mr Balamurugan Srinivasagan, Head, Non-Destructive Testing and Sensors Research Group in R&D, Tata Steel Ltd, Jamshedpur has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Non-Destructive Testing and Sensors. His area of research interests include Non-destructive evaluation in process control, product quality assurance and predictive maintenance for steel industries. He joined in Tata Steel R&D in 2009.

He did his undergraduate in B.E. in Mechanical Engineer from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai in 2002 and then he completed his graduation in Non-Destructive Testing from NIT, Tiruchirappalli in 2004.

He served as a lead engineer for M/s ALSTOM to carry out condition assessment of critical components in various power plants.

He is the recipient of “National NDT award for excellence in Industrial Applications” and “International Recognition” in 2018 and 2024, respectively from Indian Society for Non-Destructive Testing (ISNT). Also, he was recognised consistently for his contributions of innovations in “TATA INNOVISTA”, where he won two awards in 2022, and a Regional Award in 2015. He is instrumental in the in-house development and commercialisation of NDT technologies for the condition assessment of cooling staves and hearth refractories in Blast Furnaces for steel industries.

He has published more than 15 technical papers in national and international journals /conferences, filed 15+ patents in the area of Non-destructive evaluation.
